The National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities sponsors this website. It
provides 'Questions and Answers' on wheelchair use, blindness, problems with speaking, communicating,
and caring for own bodily functions. It also offers information about Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida,
visual impairments, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders and more. It allows you
to use the internet to get help from others, take an "Attitude Checkup", and look up terms
in a special Dictionary.
National Down Syndrome Society
This is the most complete site devoted to increasing public awareness about Down Syndrome.
It also assists families in addressing the needs of children born with this genetic condition.
PAVE
Washington PAVE is a parent-directed organization. It focuses on helping families with
special needs foster independence. The organization offers training, information, and
referral support.
Pierce County Parent Coalition
Pierce County Parent Coalition, known as PC2 is a parent-driven organization that offers families ways to meet the
needs and enhance the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities
National Organization for Rare Disorders
NORD focuses on efforts to prevent, treat, and cure rare "orphan" diseases. The site offers
news and information, research, news and services, an organizational database, index of
rare diseases and much more.
National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities
Sponsored by the CDC, this site specializes in information about birth defects and developmental
disabilities, hereditary blood disorders, and human development and disability. It
offers Spanish language translation. It also has a section written for kids from 4th
grade through high school.
The Arc of Washington State
The Arc of Washington State promotes education, programs and services for people with
developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, epilepsy and
related neurological disorders that occur before the age of 18.
